It was great to see the excitement and enthusiasm for chess last night! If you couldn’t make it to the kick-off, that’s okay (Mondays are busy!) Reach out and we can fill you in. We welcome questions! You don’t need to know how to play to join, just willing to learn. If you’re already a strong player, you can help others while honing your skills. We will meet on Tuesdays from 6pm - 8pm starting later this month. We also have six (6) USCF rated scholastic tournaments on the calendar this year, which opens up the competition to surrounding counties. The first tournament (Coastal Bend Fall Scholastic & Open) will be October 24th. Tournament registration & details to come! It’s a great opportunity to get involved, so if you’re on the fence, perhaps this is that last little nudge you needed to convince you to sign up!

Come play some chess while we cheer for The Hooks!

So it’s root, root, root for your chess side,
Win or lose, it’s okay!

We’ve been working on something a little different at Third Coast Chess: preserving Texas chess history.

The Texas Chess Archive is beginning to take shape, with a growing collection of Texas Chess Association - TCA Texas Knights bulletins from the 1960s through 1970, along with the first issue of the Texas Chess-O-Gram from September 1970.

These publications offer a fascinating look at Texas chess more than half a century ago, including tournaments, games, results, clubs, and many of the people who helped build chess across the state.

The issues have been digitized and made searchable, with the goal of making this history available instead of leaving it forgotten in boxes or eventually lost.

We’re looking for more. If you have old Texas chess magazines, newsletters, tournament bulletins, photographs, crosstables, or other historical material, send us a message.

Help us preserve the history of Texas chess.

Texas Chess History Archive – Third Coast Chess Club
Third Coast Chess is digitizing a private collection of early Texas Knights bulletins and related Texas chess publications. The current archive covers surviving issues from 1964 through 1970, including the disrupted transition from Robert Brieger’s editorship to the later Campion/Callaway period a...
