You’ll notice that the calendar has been updated with a new meetup location for our Monday Club OTB meetings. We’re meeting at Grandma B’s Sweet Treats! They have graciously allowed us to bring the chess! So, starting on April 21, 2025, we will no longer be meeting at the Aransas County Public Library on Mondays. I need to go and update the banner on the bulletin board at the library and point folks over to Grandma B’s.
You may be wondering, “Why are we leaving the library?” If you’ve joined us in the past few months, you’ve probably noticed that the meeting room we once used was repurposed during the ongoing courthouse construction to allow for county officials to perform their tasks. Over the past few months, the library has planned on converting the remaining table space into individual study cubicles – great for quiet reading, but not ideal for a social game like chess. Libraries will always be special places for thoughtful activities, and we’re grateful for the time we had there. In fact, if they want chess as part of a summer program, they know who to reach out to. That said, it’ll be nice to have a space where we don’t have to wrap up right at 6 PM. Oh, and ice cream is a nice touch.
