Third Coast Chess: Growing Opportunities ♟️

Third Coast Chess is alive and well, with a couple of exciting opportunities on the horizon.

One initiative involves a potential partnership with Rockport-Fulton Independent School District. The district has some unused property, and we’ve proposed using it for free community chess nights, classes, and tournaments. This would transform a dormant asset into something that directly benefits students and families – at no cost to them or the district. The contact I’ve spoken with will be sharing the idea with the superintendent, and we’ll know more soon.

The second opportunity is a proposal we submitted to launch a 4-H Chess Project for Aransas County. The project is designed to give youth a chance to learn and grow through chess, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and sportsmanship. It emphasizes practice, learning by doing, leadership, and community engagement – values that align with 4-H’s mission. The full proposal has been delivered to the local Extension Office, and we’re awaiting feedback.

These steps forward represent the same vision that drives Third Coast Chess: creating more ways for our community to enjoy, learn, and play chess together.

See you over the board! ♟️
