Three of our club members participated. Lincoln competed in the open section with some good games against all higher rated players. He had 2 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws. The two draws were against an 1800 and 1650 rated players, bringing his rating up by 187 points (now 1284).
The first image is of the top 3 boards of Round 4 Open section. Lincoln is playing as white against an 1800 (Jim Shaw) and they eventually drew the game.
Theo and Walter played in the Primary section, with Theo taking 2nd place with 4 wins and a loss. Walter placed 6th, with 3 wins and 2 losses. This next image is of Walter, delivering checkmate with a Bishop & Queen combo.
The image below is of Theo, concentrating on a game he later went on to win.
Overall, the tournament was a success. Some folks from RGV made the trip and we were even able to find a parent to fill-in for one of the BYEs we had in later rounds (because some participants need to leave earlier and don’t end up playing all of the rounds).
